We recently took a trip with the great guys at Trees4trees to get a better understanding of a new collaboration with local woodwork college called PICA. PICA is a specialised Woodworking College based in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. PICA conduct an annual planting scheme with their ‘sister school’ in a remote community that was recently affected by the devastation caused when Mt Merapi erupted late in 2011.
PIKA X Trees4trees
Communication has begun about the collaboration between trees4trees where they plan to combine forces with PICA and enhance the efficiency, productivity, yield and effectiveness of their current annual replanting program. It’s these initiatives that which have positive affects on our environment and these local communities far and beyond any other current programs. The initiative creates assets for this community, educates the youth on how to properly care for the environment and teaches best practises to sustain the environment and material they work with. At the same time this initiative serves as great resource for the community, creating a asset that will continue to enrich their lives for many years to come, at the same time as educating the community on the value and worth of replanting.
Great work by everyone involved and such a privilege to see the work in progress. The positive affect of a program like this that recognises the needs on all levels, is something we should all support. Well done PICA for creating future leaders and Trees4trees for supporting this cause!
A big thanks again to the guys at Trees4trees and PICA for the amazing experience! WTP
